Outstanding Service in Hospitals
One of the first female doctors in Italy
After pushing against the gender barriers in Italy as a young girl, Dr. Montessori was granted permission from the Pope to attend Medical School - where she would have otherwise been denied - and followed her dreams to become the first female doctor in Italy. Little did she know, that a new dream would emerge.
After being appointed lecturer at the women's teacher training college, as well as a director of the State Orthophrenic School for children with learning difficulties in Rome, Montessori recieved an award for Outstanding Service in Hospitals.
Dr. Montessori was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for three years in a row.
Dr. Montessori published these books that examined the physical and mental development of the child in the early years of their life, as well as the nature of the child and her methods.
